The Season of Creation 2023 which runs from September 1st (the World Day of Prayer for Creation) to October 4th (the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi). This Season is a wonderful opportunity to respond to the call of Pope Francis to listen to the cry of the
earth and the cry of the poor. As the ecological crisis worsens our newsfeeds are filled with stories of devastation, particularly in the most vulnerable parts of the world. Creation cries out as forests burn, animals flee, lives are lost and people are forced to migrate. The theme for this year’s Season is inspired by the Prophet Amos who cries out: “Let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!” (Amos 5: 24). The symbol is that of a ‘mighty river’: “Listen carefully, I am about to do a new thing, now it will spring forth; will you not be aware of it? I will even put a road in the wilderness, rivers in the desert.” (Isaiah 43:19)
